Hardware Tradeshow
Thursday, June 9th, 2011After a long, eventful, and very productive week Chris, Andy, and I have parted ways and returned to our respective homes. We lived the life for four days in Las Vegas walked numerous miles through the convention center for the National Hardware and Garden Tradeshow and had many great business dinners and breakfasts. All in all it was one of our most productive tradeshows to date. We secured many great leads for licensing products, caught up with old friends and and industry contacts and made new ones. Las Vegas is an interesting place its like a huge mirage in the middle of the desert, nothing seems real and it at times seems like one big illusion. The fun things I highly suggest you doing when in Vegas: If you have a chance, see a Cirque De Soleil performance( there are seven to choose from) they are all stunning, visit Tao in the Venetian Hotel there is 30 foot Buddha in the dining room and the food is amazing,lf you need a break from the bright lights head out to the desert, within 45 minutes there are several fantastic national parks.
A few things that we noticed from the show and everyone should keep their eyes open for are:
1. Powersquid- Had great exposure at the show, it was relaunched under the Stanley brand and was front and center in their booth, they are releasing four new models and have more lined up for the future.2. Command 1- The line of 14 products that we redesigned for the Westinghouse brand were out front and center as well, looking very stunning I might add.3. The Tough horse- is an innovative take on the sawhorse which solves the problem of them just being awkward and having multiple components. Not to mention its just cool which means a lot in the world of design. If you want a closer look at our trip you can see our pictures on our new facebook page at Trident Design, LLC.-Nile
Viva Las Vegas
Monday, May 2nd, 2011Hardware Show
Trident Design goes to Vegas! well really just Chris, Andy, and I, but we will be representing the whole office. Besides some small time gambling, mingling and checking out cirque du soleil, we will be attending the worlds largest annual Hardware and Garden show. Buyers from nearly every large bigbox retailer will also be attending the show to make purchases for the upcoming year. The Powersquid will be front and center represented by the world famous Stanley brand. Under the new brand and with an attractive price point we are confident that the squid will perform in a big way this year. In addition there are quite a few products from independant inventors that we will be privately debuting to our favorite buyers. We are expecting some great things from the show! When I return I promise to bring my best and worst of the show, and give you some insiders info on what trends to look for from the hardware industry in the upcoming year.

The Worms
Thursday, March 3rd, 2011A worm, one of the most resilient forms of life on the planet, can have half of its body severed and still survive and thrive enough to grow it back. The point being that although I like to think of Trident as a much cleaner organism, metaphorically speaking it is quite similar to the worm. It has been a little over a week with Chris on vacation but that has not stopped the roll and the flow of things around here. The design team is still hitting their marks, Lisa is still bringing in the business, and Rachael is still making sure everything is on track. With signs of spring peeking over the horizon, the few nice days we have gotten have been reason enough to break out of the hibernation and start working hard, and that’s exactly what we are doing. What are we working on these days you might be wondering? I will say this, there’s never a shortage of kitchen gadgets, but we are venturing into a few new realms and one of our products will be on live display atSXSW this year courtesy of Sonos. The Powersquid is thriving in its three new habitats, and there are some fun finger puppets in the mix. We are not named Trident for no reason, we are hard working and serious designers ready to take on any job and prove our abilities.

The World of Trident
Tuesday, February 1st, 2011Welcome to the reclaimed blog of Trident Design, LLC. With the new year came a new voice for the blog, the voice is Nile Woodson and I am the Marketing Assistant in the office. I have been placed in charge of keeping everyone informed as to what’s happening here at Trident.
After the long holiday break Trident is buzzing again, back to work, back to business, back to the drawing board. So what’s new at Trident you might ask? Futuristic remote controls, Smart plugs, and vegetable peelers, that’s what’s going on this week at Trident Design.
It’s also that trade show time of year A.K.A. an extra busy time of year for Chris as he is making his rounds. I overheard him say to a client earlier today, “I’m like Tarzan swinging from trade show to trade show.” Chris just got back from CES (Consumer Electronics Show), where some interesting things took place. First and foremost, The Powersquid was presented under three new names press release, it is now represented by: Accel, Bits Limited, and The Stanley Brand, 3 formidable companions in our endeavor to change the world of power. I asked him about the biggest trends of this year, his response was hands down IPAD accessories; cases, travel packs, speakers, stands, etc. Not a huge surprise I might add, but the things that really caught his eye are as follows:
1. Tandars- www.tandars.com fun and interactive monkey pets which simulate burps, hiccups, sleepiness, they make noise and communicate with their owners. Chris was ammused but they remind me of cute monkey version gremlins.
2. Dynamics smart card- www.poweredcards.com Ranked highest on Chris’s list from CES, this card enables the user to access multiple accounts through one card with a magnetic strip that rewrites itself on the spot depending on which account you choose to use.
3. Exo-Skeleton- http://www.cyberdyne.jp/english/robotsuithal/index.html The most impactfulpresentation Chris noticed at CES. These “legs” can help transform peoples lives and gives paralyzed people an opportunity to walk again.
4. Monster Cable- www.monstercable.com Chris greatly appreciated the design they have done to the Dre beats headphones, and mentioned a unique motion/gesture controller for the ipod which depending on the movement you make will play, pause, skip, etc.
What will 2011 bring? No one is quite sure, but I promise you there will be some exciting innovations coming out of Trident design. Stay tuned for next week: reports from the PGA show….

Merry Squidmas!
Saturday, December 27th, 2008I hope everyone had a Merry Squidmas. I did! On Squidmas Eve I received an email from Woot!, who sends out a daily deal everyday, and they were offering PowerSquid. They have sold PowerSquid several times and it is always a big success. The daily deal goes on every day at midnight and they sold out of however many they had by 6 AM.
Accompanying the email was the most amazing poem, written by some genius over at Woot!. It is based on the Night Before Christmas. Follow this link to read it.
